The old city of D.C. is about to get a facelift.
As part of a $5.8 billion expansion of the National Capital Region, the city is planning to make it easier to get from one side of the country to the other by moving its airport to the northern end of the region.
The airport is located in the heart of the Capital Beltway and is among the most popular destinations in the nation.
The plan to move the airport has prompted an uproar from many people who have long called for it to be moved.

Cs. population grew from 3.8 million in 1990 to more than 5.5 million in 2016, according to the Census Bureau.

But as the population of the D-District and the surrounding region has grown, so has the traffic congestion.
There are more than 15,000 trips a day in the area, according the Department of Transportation, and some people say that the airport is an excuse for people to travel farther and faster than is safe.
